Contract Magazine has announced the 15 winners of its 31st Annual Interiors Awards.
The progressive and innovative design firm
Graft was awarded the 2010 Designer of the Year distinction.
With offices in Los Angeles, Berlin and Beijing, Graft is a full service architectural firm with professional experience that encompasses a wide array of building types including Fine Arts, Educational, Institutional, Commercial and Residential. Graft has also expanded into the fields of automobile design, art installations, academic projects, event production, and even music.
Graft has been highly involved in the Make it Right (MIR) residential restoration project in New Orleans.
The company's five partners, who have been in business for 12 years now, each collaborate on every project. Their signature meandering shapes are their hallmark. Bird's Island, a residential project in Malaysia is pictured at right and Vertical Village in Dubai is pictured below.
On a different front, the "Father of Commercial Design", Arthur Gensler, received the
2010 Legends Award. Gensler founded his namesake firm in 1965, and it has since grown from a three person firm to a global presence with 1,800 professionals practicing in 25 cities worldwide. Gensler is a graduate of Cornell University and a fellow of both the AIA and IIDA.
Honors were bestowed for fifteen different categories, from adaptive re-use to restaurant design to educational facility design. To read about all of the winners, click
